Crystal

Extraordinarily beautiful material

| News

The use of glass, a natural material that originates from silicon, dates back to the third millennium BC, in Mesopotamia. Already at that time, Sumerians and Egyptians used glass paste as a decoration of pearls and inlays. Small glass jars dating back to 1000 BC have been found in India and China.

Object of manufacture since ancient times, glass has always had a diffusion throughout the Mediterranean basin, first and then in Asia.

Thanks to its elegance, glass is used in the decorations of vases, jewelry, mosaics, containers and glasses.
Thanks to its transparency and versatility, it is also used in the construction sector.

Crystal, understood as lead glass, also appears for the first time in Mesopotamia, again in the third millennium BC. Its diffusion follows that of glass. And naturally it also asserts itself among the glass masters of Venice.
The crystal begins to be worked on an industrial scale towards the end of the 1600s. Thanks to the presence of lead instead of calcium, the appearance of this particular glass was significantly better, and the processing and handling time also increased.

To date, the new European directives prohibit the use of lead in crystal processing: this is replaced by oxides of barium, zinc or potassium.
The result is a lively and shiny product, capable of releasing an ancient charm and extraordinary elegance.
